Digital Youth Summit

Creating comms-centric propositions for high value segments of the Youth market?

Photographs from the March 2007 Industry Brainstorm

Introduction

Unique 'Mindshare'™ Format:

Part of the 3rd Telco 2.0™ Executive Brainstorm, this Summit builds on the output from the Digital Youth session of the Telco 2.0™ / GSMA brainstorm held on 28th March in London. A summary of the focus of this upcoming October Summit is here.

As 'Web 2.0' (and all that comes with it) becomes increasingly mainstream amongst the younger generation, so operators must look at how the attitudes and behaviour of their core adult segments will evolve as the Web 2.0 brigade mature. Students and young (working) adults are embracing social networking communities that foster their interests in music, sport, celebrity gossip, video etc. What opportunities exist for operators to better serve these customers?

Rationale

Feedback from previous events:

A fabulous event. CEO, Service Provider

Very stimulating after all those "get-me-out-of-here-fast" conferences. CTO, Major Operator

A great event - truly different. Chief Telecoms Analyst, Investment Bank

Creating propositions for niche markets is difficult for telcos. University students are an extremely important segment of the youth market. The opportunity for telcos is to create community-centric comms solutions that build around student values of music, social networking, texting and learning, and in so doing create loyalty that will last into the lucrative adult years. The aim is to generate a new, practical and industry scaleable proposition that leverages latent telco assets to address a critical unmet user need in this high value market sub-segment, with a view to applying the lessons more broadly as well.

Process

We will follow STL Partners' facilitated 'Mindshare' brainstorming process based on a Telco 2.0 business model framework. This includes specially briefed stimulus presentations and interactive collaborative technology.

['Mindshare'] is excellent... more intimate than the larger shows, an opportunity to have a real conversation with the audience. Vice President, Major Media Company

Input

Desk research from STL Partners; Preparation of Business Model Framework; Preparation of 1 sample value Proposition; Recruitment of Stimulus Speakers from across the value chain.

Output

Potential new scaleable comms-centric proposition and implementation approach for this market segment; a process template that can be used for other segments.
