Dave Hughes
Director, Wireless Broadband
BT Retail
Dave Hughes is currently Director, BT Wireless Broadband with responsibility for the development of BT’s wireless broadband strategy and its execution.
Previously, Dave lead on all the technical aspects of BT Retail’s Mobility and Convergence activities. These activities included responsibility for the building and managing of the MVNO platform with Vodafone, launching the world’s first mobile phone that works seamlessly on broadband – BT Fusion; managing the UK’s leading public WiFi network – BT Openzone; and, building the ground-breaking Wireless Cities network.
Prior to this Dave had a number of positions in BT Retail including CTO where he led technology innovation projects, CEO BT Wireless Broadband where he led BT Openzone business as a corporate venture, and, was the founding Director of BT Mobility where he launched BT Mobile, BT Openzone and laid the foundations of the MVNO.
Before his move into BT Retail and world of mobile Dave spent 7 years leading BT’s core Internet and IP networks business culminating in being Acting President of BT Ignites’ Internet services business – then £500m revenue.
The earlier part of Dave’s career was spent in a variety of technical roles including Network Management Systems development and Standards and Digital telephone exchange development.
Dave started his career with BT in 1981 after graduating from UMIST with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
