Susan Binns
Director Lisbon Strategy & Policies for the Information Society

Sue Binns is the Director in DG Information Society and Media responsible for policy coordination. This means in particular ensuring coherence between the Research side of the DG, which concerns two thirds of its personnel and the other policy instruments, including the regulatory frameworks for electronic communications and for audio-visual media services.
Sue Binns started her career in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and was involved in the negotiations for the UK’s accession to the European Community. She transferred to the Commission in 1981 in the Cabinet of Ivor Richard, then Commissioner responsible for Employment and Social Affairs. After postings in the Commission’s delegations in Washington DC and Belgrade, she was Deputy Chef then Chef de Cabinet to Commissioner Bruce Millan, who held the Regional Policy portfolio in the second Delors Commission. She then spent 10 years as a Director in DG Internal Market, in three different posts. She joined DG Information Society and Media in March 2005, undertaking her current responsibilities in October 2005.
